I don’t use Siri a lot on the Mac, but it brings the laptops up to par with the iPhone and iPad in terms of using the assistant. Additionally, it allows these laptops to use the “Hey Siri” command to summon Apple’s digital assistant. It uses Apple’s secure enclave co-processing technology for encryption and secure booting and also serves as the SSD controller. The new generation of MacBook Pros are the first to feature Apple’s T2 chip, which takes on some capabilities from the CPU. I’ve grown to accept the Touch Bar (and definitely appreciate having Touch ID attached), and scrubbing through video with it is cool, but I still prefer the dedicated function keys. #Macbook pro 2018 processor pro#And right now, I don’t feel that there’s enough developer support to make it a must-have (except for the fact that to get the latest CPU, you need to get a MacBook Pro with one). The OLED Touch Bar on top of the keyboard is only as strong as its developer support. I never once had an issue with a gesture, like swiping between Spaces with four fingers, pinching out with five fingers to reveal the desktop, or two-finger scrolling. Instead, it uses haptic feedback to simulate the feeling that you’re pushing down. The 5.2 x 3.2-inch touchpad is spacious, and like models going back several years now, doesn’t actually click. Leaked documents and a patent from March suggest this membrane could block dirt and dust from getting into the keyboard, but no one has said anything about it officially. But iFixIt’s teardown of the machine revealed a silicone membrane around the switches. What we don’t know for sure is if the keyboard is more reliable than the ones on models dating back to 2015 and for which Apple now has a replacement program. The clicking is more muted than on last year’s model, though you can still hear it if you type hard enough. The only thing that has changed, according to Apple, is that it’s quieter, and that seems about right. "The main issue here is it’s 'only' a quad-core CPU and the 15-inch MacBook Pro seems like it’s itching for 6-cores.While I’m OK with the keyboard, Apple faithfuls on the internet, tech enthusiasts, as well as some of my colleagues have vocally disagreed with me for the past few years. #Macbook pro 2018 processor Pc#"If you’re thinking Kaby Lke G seems custom tailored for a 15-inch MacBook Pro, it’s what we think, too," said PC World's Ung. That list is headed by an Intel Core i7-8809G (3.1 GHz /4.2 GHz) processor with Radeon RX Vega M GH graphics. And it's a 45-watt processor so could feasibly be used in a top-line MBP 15 offering.Īnother interesting possibility is the quad-core Kaby Lake G ( see this Intel Kaby Lake G ARK list or same list included below). ( See Notebook Check Core i9-8950HK benchmarks.) That Core i9 has a whopping six cores, 2.9 GHz base clock speed (4.8 GHz max), and 12 MB SmartCache. And would offer a huge performance boost over the current Kaby Lake-based MBP 15. Gordon Mah Ung, " Intel Inside: The CPUs Apple could stuff in the next MacBooks" April 4, 2018įor MacBook Pro 15 prospects, Intel's Coffee Lake mobile list above peaks with the Intel Core i9-8950HK. A slightly faster main memory of LPDDR3/2133 could also up graphics performance (DDR4 is also supported but Apple favors better battery life and will likely stick with LPDDR3). Graphics in the 13-inch MacBook Pro 13 with an 8th generation Coffee Lake CPU inside should also see a very decent bump, as Intel now integrates 128MB of eDRAM cache over the previous versions 64MB of eDRAM. Ung says that chip would offer a "massive performance leap" over the current 7th gen dual-core processors. PC World's Gordon Mah Ung speculates that Apple may opt for the Coffee Lake Core i7-8559U (base frequency of 2.7 GHz) for the MBP 13 (see Coffee Lake list above or the same list on Intel Coffee Lake Mobile ARK page.)
